What this converter does
WebVTT is the caption format the HTML5 <track> element reads. It looks like SRT, but starts with a WEBVTT header, uses a dot instead of a comma before the milliseconds, and treats < and & as markup. This converter writes the header, changes every timestamp and escapes those characters, so the result plays exactly as written.
Need captions from scratch?
If you have the video but no subtitle file, SubForge auto captions transcribes it in your browser with word-level timing and exports SRT, VTT or ASS with no watermark. Other formats: VTT to SRT, ASS to SRT.
Questions
Will my timing change?
No. Every start and end time is kept to the millisecond.
Does it keep line breaks?
Yes. A cue with two rows stays two rows.
What about styling tags like <i>?
Italic, bold and underline tags are kept: VTT supports them too. Other tags, such as font colours, are shown as text, so remove them first or use ASS for styling.
Does it work with Urdu and Arabic?
Yes. Text is kept exactly as it is, including right-to-left marks.
