How it works
- Drop your video. MP4, MOV, WebM or MKV, any length. Or press Try a sample.
- Pick where it's going. The tool works out the bitrate from the length and the limit, keeps room for the sound, and picks a resolution and frame rate that will still look clean. The estimated size and a real before-and-after frame update as you change things.
- Trim if you like, or set the resolution and frame rate yourself.
- Compress. When the encode finishes, the tool weighs the file. If it came out over the limit, it encodes again at a lower bitrate, so the file you download is always under the target, to the byte.
What fits
| Length | 10 MB | 20 MB | 50 MB |
|---|---|---|---|
| 30 seconds | 1080p | 1080p | 2160p |
| 1 minute | 720p | 1080p | 1440p |
| 3 minutes | 360p | 540p | 720p |
| 10 minutes | 240p | 240p | 480p |
What the automatic setting picks for a 4K, 30 fps video with sound (smaller sources stay at their own size). Fast-moving footage looks softer at the same size; you can always override it.
You choose the size, and the tool works out the quality. Most compressors do the reverse and leave you guessing.
A short piece is really encoded with your settings, so the preview shows the quality you will actually get.
Encoding happens in this tab. Your video never touches a server.
Compress a video to 10 MB
Pick the 10 MB preset (or Custom and type any size). 10 MB is 80 megabits. Spread over a minute, that is about 1.3 megabits a second for picture and sound together: enough for clean 720p of a talking head, a screen recording or a phone video. For a 3-minute video it drops to 360p; at that point, trimming helps more than any setting. The table above shows what fits.
Some sites count a megabyte as 1,000,000 bytes and some as 1,048,576. The tool aims under 10,000,000 bytes, the smaller of the two, so the file fits either way.
Compress for a specific place
- Discord: 10, 20, 50 or 500 MB depending on the account.
- WhatsApp: under 16 MB so it plays in the chat.
- Email: Gmail's 25 MB and Outlook's 20 MB, allowing for attachment encoding.
- Reduce video size without losing quality: where the savings come from.
- MP4 compressor: MOV, WebM and MKV in, MP4 out.
Questions
Is my video uploaded?
No. Your browser reads the file from your disk and encodes it on your own device with WebCodecs. Nothing is sent to a server, so it also works on large private files.
Why does it say the file is guaranteed to be under the limit?
After encoding, the tool measures the real file. Video encoders can overshoot a bitrate by a few percent, so if the file is over the target the tool encodes again at a lower bitrate. It only offers the download once the byte count is under the target, and it shows both numbers.
Which browsers work?
Any browser with WebCodecs video encoding: recent Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari on a computer, and Chrome on Android. If yours can't, the tool says so instead of failing halfway. If your browser can encode VP9 but not H.264 with AAC, you get a WebM file and a note saying so.
How long does it take?
Usually less than the video's own running time. Most computers encode H.264 in hardware: a 1080p minute takes seconds, and a 4K file is slower because every frame must be decoded and scaled first. The progress bar shows the time left.
What format do I get?
MP4 with H.264 video and AAC sound, which plays everywhere: Discord, WhatsApp, iPhone, Android, Windows, Mac and every email app. If your browser can't encode those, it says so and makes WebM (VP9 + Opus).
Is there a length or size limit?
No fixed limit. Very long videos squeezed into small targets can't look good, so the tool tells you how many seconds would fit and lets you trim.
Can I make a 5-minute video 10 MB?
Yes, at about 240p, which is small but watchable for a talk or a screen recording. For anything with detail, trim it or send it as two parts.
Can I compress a 1 GB video to 10 MB?
Only if it is short or you accept a small picture. Size depends on length, not on the original file size: a 1 GB phone video of 1 minute fits 10 MB at about 720p, but a 20-minute one would be a blurry thumbnail. Trim it, or pick a larger target.
Privacy
Your video never leaves your device. The browser reads the file from your disk, decodes it, re-encodes it and hands you the result, all inside this tab. There is no upload, no account, and no cookies or analytics on this page. Close the tab and it is gone.
