How well it does Spanish
Spanish is one of Whisper's strongest languages. On real read speech the Best model (Whisper large-v3 turbo, picked automatically on computers with WebGPU) got 2 words wrong in 40 seconds, both in a name. Accurate made one more mistake, and even Fast was ready to publish after a quick read-through. Auto-detect recognised Spanish on every clip.
| Model | Character error | Word error | Speed (WebGPU) | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Best (Whisper large-v3 turbo) | 0.5% | 2% | 0.41× real time | Only a name misheard in 40 s |
| Accurate (Whisper small) | 1% | 6% | 0.39× real time | One misheard word in 40 s |
| Fast (Whisper base) | 6% | 18% | 0.18× real time | A few misheard words; good for a first pass |

Tips for Spanish captions
- The tool picks Best when your computer can run it. On a phone or an older laptop you get Accurate or Fast: fine for clear Spanish, but read names and numbers twice.
- Whisper writes accents and the opening
¿and¡; check numbers, which it sometimes spells out. - For Shorts, TikTok and Reels, set the line length to 20-28 characters in the Style tab so captions stay on two short rows.
- Spanish captions run long. Watch the reading-speed readout (cps) on each line and split anything above 20.
Questions
Does it handle Latin American and Spain Spanish?
Yes. Whisper was trained on both; we measured Latin American read speech. Regional words and names are where it slips, so read the lines before you publish.
Can it translate Spanish to English?
Not yet. It transcribes Spanish as Spanish. Translation is planned for SubForge Pro.
Is my video uploaded?
No. It is transcribed in your browser. Only the optional hook writer sends the caption text, and only when you click it.
Which file should I download?
SRT for YouTube, Facebook, Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve and CapCut; VTT for web players; ASS if you want the caption style you picked.
